The Brief

When B&M asked us to bring together 900 store managers from across the UK for one unforgettable event, we knew this wasn’t going to be your standard conference.

This needed to be BIG, Bold, Immersive and bursting with festive energy.

The brief? Deliver a high-impact conference, a buzzing brand expo with 40+ suppliers, and a show-stopping evening party, all wrapped up in one seamless experience ahead of the most important retail season of the year.

Challenge

First things first, we needed a venue that could handle serious scale and production power.

After extensive site visits and careful planning, we secured the iconic NEC Birmingham. With its vast footprint and infrastructure, it gave us the freedom to think big, build bold and deliver multiple environments under one roof.

Because when you’re hosting 900 people, flow is everything.

We created “The Greatest Christmas” concept, a high-energy, circus-inspired concept with a playful nod to the magic and spectacle of The Greatest Showman.

This wasn’t just a theme.
It was a full creative red thread woven through every moment of the day.

Think:

  • Big-top energy
  • Festive flair
  • Dramatic reveals
  • Bold colour palettes
  • Theatrical staging
  • Immersive details at every turn

Behind the expo sat the conference space – a purpose build auditorium complete with flying LED screens, and impressive stage to rival any TV studio.

We wanted to create a seamless yet memorable moment from conference to exhibition.

To achieve this, we constructed bespoke doors surrounding the conference area, concealing the exhibition from view. At the right moment, these doors opened to reveal the vibrant circus-themed expo beyond.

The reveal created a genuine “wow” moment, reinforcing the theatrical narrative while shifting the energy from strategy to exploration.

At the heart of the event was the expo, 40+ major brands showcasing their products ahead of the Christmas trading rush.

So, we built a giant circus big-top installation inside the venue to house it.

Vibrant. Immersive. Impossible to ignore.

This wasn’t rows of standard shell scheme stands, it was an interactive playground where managers could get hands-on with products, meet suppliers and genuinely engage.

From the moment guests arrived, they stepped into a world designed to surprise, delight and excite.

Delivery

The day began with a buzzing welcome breakfast, fresh barista coffee, great food and 900 store managers reconnecting, networking and building momentum for the day ahead.

Then it was showtime.

Guests moved into the auditorium where the conference opened with key strategic updates from the CEO of B&M, setting the direction for the all-important Christmas season. The energy stayed high with surprise stand-up comedy and dynamic hosting from Rob Beckett, bringing humour and personality to the stage.

And then came the moment no one expected.

At just the right time, doors opened to reveal the hidden circus-themed expo, a vibrant, high-impact space packed with over 40 brands ready to showcase their products. The afternoon was filled with hands-on experiences, conversations with suppliers and genuine engagement, all under the immersive “Greatest Christmas” big-top setting.

After a full-on day, guests were transported to their hotels to refresh before the evening celebrations began back at the NEC Birmingham.

Hosted by Gok Wan with a headline performance from Blue, the circus-themed party was packed with interactive games, themed food stalls and surprise performances. The dancefloor stayed full as colleagues celebrated success and geared up for the festive season ahead.

Conclusion

One day.
Multiple moments.
900 leaders united — and officially the best one yet, according to B&M.
